HIGHLIGTHS ON THE RECENTLY PUBLISHED SCIENCE ARTICLE

On friday the 19th of June 2009 the research in the field of Water-HCl clusters pursued in collaboration with the Ruhr University Bochum (Germany) has been published on Science. In our study we propose a new mechanism for chemical reactions in esotic conditions. In particular we studied the dissociation reaction of HCl in a small water nano-aggregate at temperatures below 1 K. Dissociation occurs when the cluster is formed by one HCl and four water molecules, which constitutes the smallest drop of acid ever observed. With computer simulations we found that the mechanism underling its formation is a stepwise aggregation process.
